Crazy Nights In Rome
Ideas on out-of-the-ordinary bars in the city
Are you ready for one of the most eccentric evenings in the eternal city? Rome is certainly less well known than its Milanese counterpart for its evening fracas, but for enthusiasts of originally-styled bars, this little selection should certainly be to your taste.
CLASSICO VILLAGE: GAY IN BOTH SENSES OF THE WORD
This former factory features a charming little internal courtyard which is very much appreciated during the hot summer months. Le Classico Village includes a bar and restaurant, and very frequently hosts concerts, usually of jazz. And as the Mecca of Roman evenings, the house, rock and electro music sets played by live DJ's will easily fire up your nights. This eclectric space in the district of Ostiense (near the former station) is also one of those rare places to spend an evening in full gay form, especially on Saturdays.

JOHNATHAN'S ANGELS: WOW
This is one of the most bizarre bars which I have ever come across in Rome, even in all of Italy. The owner is a former acrobat called Jonathan, who is also an artist-decorator in his spare time....painted on the walls of the bar are representations of himself imitating well-known people. Not to be missed is Jonathan doing the Pope, Jonathan in Napoleon guise and so on. The smallest part of the bar which is not covered with Jonathan's extravagant paintings is given over to trinkets as weird-looking and eccentric as the patron himself. But the very strangest section in all the place is definitely the toilets, which really are worth a visit even if don't actually have to "go".
The staff are cool and the prices are affordable- not although amongst the very cheapest- but Johnathan's Angels is certainly worth the detour.
VIP Nights out in Rome
Get wired-in to wired-up nights in Rome
Already having been several days in the city of Rome, you burn with desire to blend in with this attractive crowd of nice, appealing people with very sexy Italian accents.... Begin by heading over for a tour of the Via Condotti and once dolled up I suggest you go to these two clubs which are some of the places to be on a Roman night out, and for them make sure bring plenty of spare dosh.
LA MAISON: CHIC
With its completely red decor, composed of mirrors, candelabras and huge chesterfields, La Maison is a well-frequented centre of Roman life, visited both by celebrities as well as by "repeat Roman night out" customers. Having crossed the gates of the doorman/gatekeeper (who isn't too friendly), the ambiance is cool and relaxed and the music played is in most cases house and R&B, but mixed to perfection. Voracious dancers will be drawn in to having a chill-out on the "sushi couch" to savour Japanese delicacies fit for a king, all whilst reposing upon piles of luxurious cushions.
GILDA: VIP
Gilda attracts the richest and most famous inhabitants and casual visitors to Rome. Here, you will be able to come across loads of television celebrities in full publicity mode, quite a few football players, politicians at the butt-end of their career and some real "personalities". There is a piano bar for private parties and 2 rooms for shaking your hips to old-school disco. You are asked to pay attention to your dress code: strictly jackets for the gentlemen and dresses for the ladies. During the summer, Gilda moves out and becomes Gilda Beach in Fregene on the Roman coast. The neighbouring establishment of Gilda is an upmarket restaurant where you will be able to savour the culinary specialities of the city.

The best plans for nights out in Rome- A little glass before dinner
After a long day of visits, walks and picnics, back in your location appartement Rome you have only one desire, and that is to tuck the children or the parents up and to take advantage of a real evening out "just for you" in a bar in typical Roman style. Is this what you're after? So lets head off to two molto simpatici bars!!
BAR DEL FICO: EARLY EVENING
The Bar del Fico is located in the small Piazza del Fico, not that far from the Piazza Navona. It's ideal for having 2 or 3 glasses before going to have dinner. The asking prices are reasonable and there are plenty of small free snacks to be nibbled! A big outside terrace is awaiting for you to draw you into one of the favourite past-times of people here, to relax while watching folks passing by.
VINERIA IL CHIANTI : EXPERT IN WINES
Vineria il Chianti is a brilliant place if you are lucky enough to snatch up a spot in the small inner courtyard, to sip delicious Italian wines in ecstasy which can sometimes make us a little tipsy. Vineria offers you an interminable list of wines and the menu inside is wonderful. The service is pleasant, quick and efficient and the setting offered by Via del Lavatore is really very lovely.
